Konichiwa!

Japanese is considered a difficult language to learn. This is particularly true for native speakers of English because Japanese is fundamentally different from European languages.

This is where Rocket Japanese comes into the picture. As with the other Rocket Language products, Rocket Japanese is broken into six components:

  • An interactive audio course (14 hours)
  • Illustrated grammar lessons, cultural notes, written Japanese Rocket Japanese online
  • “MegaVocab” software game
  • “MegaAudio” audio recognition game (recognise spoken words)
  • “MegaHiragana” Learning Game (Hiragana character set)
  • Japanese Learner’s Forum (online learning)

My impressions:
The audio course is broken into 25 minute units that allow you to achieve your goals in your own time, whether on the way to work or during your lunch breaks. The software games represent an important part for reading, writing and of cause grammar. To get the full benefit of Rocket Japanese you need to use both the audio and software components daily, if you combine this with the member forum, you have a very strong combination for learning.

This is a modern approach to Japanese language that is easy and fun. The audio is clear and well structured, it manages to put the listener in many realistic situations. The cultural aspects are very helpful. The grammar is thoroughly covered in the games and the members forum is very friendly with lots of other like-minded people to keep you motivated.

Transparent japanese language

Today’s review is: Learn Japanese Now!

Transparent Languages is a large American company that produces language software for over 105 languages. We will be focusing on Learn Japanese Now! which is part of their Complete Japanese Learning Suite.

What do I get in this system?

  • Integrated BYKI Vocabulary Software
  • MP3 Audio for iPods or other players
  • Interactive Games
  • Online Testing
  • Personal Progress Tracking

My impressions:

As with most large software companies that deal with many languages, quality can be lost. This suite comprises of the their cheaper ranged software at $69.

The software is very average, it does provide the points that were mentioned above, although, you can tell it has been produced with not a lot of quality control in mind. Their lessons are comprised of a combination of video, fun games and quizzes. The sound files can be used on your MP3 for on the run learning.

It is cheaper than the other Japanese software that we review, but you get what you pay for…

If you have a lower budget and interested, then click to Transparent Japanese Now!

Cheers,
Tristan
