My impressions:
I recently trialled Rocket Chinese, with it being the latest in the Rocket languages product line, I am very familiar with the learning process and this new product is no different. The audio component is fine for “on the road” learning. The games and learning software is well suited to the evenings or weekends, areas like Chinese alphabet, Chinese symbols, culture and writing.
As with the other Rocket products I have used, this program is very thorough. The approach is very oral giving the student a lot of opportunity to listen and repeat in a very active learning environment. It is very up to date, easy and fun. There are not many other comparable products, but more will be on the way due to the coming Olympics. The audio is well structured putting the listener in many realistic situations. The member forum is perfect for extra support.
Current price as at - May 18th 2008 is ~$99us.
Which to choose? If you want to take your audio with you and have access to a thriving community of Chinese learners, then Rocket Chinese is a good choice.
