Will vs. going to

Will and going to, talk about the future. However, they are not the same!

“Will” can be used in two situations:

  1. is used to talk about things in the future that we can’t control (not things we have decided to do)
  2. When we make a decision to do something at the time of speaking.

Some examples:

  • Maybe it will rain tomorrow
  • I think I will go to the market

“Going to” can also be used in two situations:

  1. To talk about things we have already decided to do (a plan).
  2. When there is something in the present that tells us about the future.

Some examples:

  • On my next holiday, I am going to France
  • The clouds are dark, it is going to rain!
