Themselves or each other?

This is a common mistake made by all non native English speakers. For Germans, the main problem is “each other” and “us, this will be a later lesson.

  • The men hurt themselves when they fell no the floor

(The above examples says that each man gets hurt)

  • The men hurt each other when they started to fight! 

(The above example tels us that each man hurts the other)

“Been to” or “Gone to”?

“Been to” means that we have gone somewhere  and have now come back.

  • I have been to Germany five times.
  • Have you been to Germany before?  

“Gone to” means that we have gone somewhere and are still there.

  • Andrew is not home, he has gone to France.
  • Jack has gone to the bank, he will be home soon.
